•Applying to a military academy is a very lengthy process.  If you are interested in attending an academy, you need to start examining the process and taking entrance exams early in your junior year.

 

 

College ROTC  (Reserved Officer Training Corps)

•You may participate in college ROTC even if you did not participate in high school ROTC or participated in a different branch than the one you have chosen for college.

•Participation in college ROTC provides scholarships or other financial help.

•You are required to spend so many years on active duty if you participate in college ROTC.

•The deadlines for college ROTC scholarships usually are in early fall of your senior year.

ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

  

•This is the test needed for admission into any of the branches of the military.

•The test covers general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, mathematics knowledge, electronics information, auto and shop information, and mechanical comprehension.

•The higher your score, the more job choices you have in the military.

•Students who are not interested in the military may also take the test to get feedback about possible careers which match their aptitudes.

•The ASVAB is given for free each fall to any WCHS junior or senior who wants to take it. Listen for announcements to sign up.

•If you are already working with a recruiter, please check with him/her before signing up for the ASVAB given at school.
